Snow Globes and Days Off

I went over to my son’s godparents house yesterday and picked up their two kids.  We had bought some empty candle jars at a craft store, but when I tested them upside down, they leaked water.  So, I had to pack the kids up in the car and take them to Target.  It was a bit of a zoo, but I got what I needed by getting help from a lady who was stocking pet items.  She said that baby food jars worked the best for snow globes.

Storm benefitted from this purchase too–Graduates Turkey and Chicken sticks.  They were the tallest jars at Target.  The contents of the jars reminds me of Vienna Sausages.  I can’t believe the stuff that I used to eat as a kid.  I’m surprised that in just 30-years what our kids eat has changed so much.

When we got home, it was quite a process getting the labels and most of the glue off of the baby food jars, but I did it.  Then the kids used paint pens to get rid of the Gerber words and such on the lids.  After that dried, I washed my hands over a bowl with lavender glycerin soap.  You only need a little glycerin in the water to keep the glitter from clumping.  When I make another one for me and a friend’s daughter on Saturday, I’ll use way less soap.  The kids picked the figurine that they wanted, and we used gorilla glue to mount them to the insides of each lid.  We had some Mario characters which was cool to use in the Christmas craft.

We also used the paint pens on the jars themselves.  I thought that my son’s came out best.  Afterward, we made sugar cookies and decorated them as well.  That was another thing that was a contrast…  The red and green sparkles that my brother and I used as kids were full of countless ingredients and dye, but we found some sprinkles with only 15-ingredients–most of which were vegetable and fruit-based coloring.

I went to high school with my son’s godmother, which means that I have known her for 27-years. Her kids don’t have dogs, so they spent a lot of time being intimidated by even our minuscule terrier.  It kinda got on my nerves after awhile.  I’m pretty sure that if I’m being completely honest with myself that is where my son was 4-years ago.  Thank goodness for my ex, who really showed me that a boy needs a dog.  Dogs would benefit any kid, I think.

Anyway, I had a nice time with the kids and am glad that I did Christmas crafts for them.  I am going to teach another friend’s daughter how to make snow globes on Saturday too.  I’m signing off with the hope that everyone has a lovely holiday.
