Expression

I know that I have written about this factor here, and I want to underscore it again this morning. My Mom and my Dad let me be me. I didn’t even really wear a shirt in the summer until I was 9. I was like a boy for all intensive purposes.

Things shifted for me when I hit puberty at 12. I just felt like I was beginning to understand that who I was was related to who I was attracted to rather than my gender. Thank you Joyce and Michael!

That doesn’t mean that I talked about these things with anyone. That doesn’t mean that I wound up coming out until I was 33.

This book has the chance to make an impact when someone reads it to a child or adolescent. The conversation can be subtle.

“What do you think that Myron was thinking at school?”

Holding space for a child to allow a conversation about deep emotional experiences can have impact. It can help a child feel safe. It can help a child feel seen. Children should be allowed to express themselves in a manner that is comfortable.
